Job description:
– to work on experiments in coupling modern nano-deposition techniques of semiconductors to the different environmental applications. The goal of the project
is to develop 2D hetero-structures with unique functional capabilities to tailor them to the requirements of various environmental applications. In particular, the project aims to develop new fabrication techniques that offer high accuracy and to introduce dynamic control of the structure, which will allow realizing for example reconfigurable functional properties of 2D semiconductors.
– to assist his/her Supervisor in teaching undergraduate courses (specifically, but not limited to, physics 3 and 4 courses) at the Ghent University Global Campus, Korea.
Starting date: February 1, 2022.
Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC), South Korea is committed to training the next generation of scientists in nano-science, nano-technologies and environmental sciences through our program at the GUGC. Our PhD program is open to outstanding candidates of any nationality. It provides a fully-funded award for students wishing to undertake a 4 (four) years of PhD research in nano-science and nano-technologies for environmental applications.
However, candidates with PhD degree are also welcomed for continuation of their high quality research combined with teaching program at GUGC.
At GUGC research is performed at the intersection between nanoscience, physical chemistry, electrochemistry and environmental applications. We are particularly interested in 2D semiconductor nanomaterials and their surface functionalization to enable environmental applications such as water treatment or exhaust gases sensing. We combine atomic layer deposition (ALD) and top-down nano-fabrication techniques to develop nanostructures, which then are studied using a range of state-of-the-art microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.
The candidate should have a master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: physics, chemistry, nanotechnologies, electrochemistry, physical chemistry, environmental technologies, chemical engineering.
In order to get Korean entry visa, candidate MUST have at least 3 (three) years of work experience! For Korean nationals or for candidates who already have Korean entry visa and applying from Korea, this requirement is not applicable.
The terms of employment at GUGC are comparable to those at the campus in Ghent, Belgium. However, free accommodation and a yearly travel budget are foreseen. This position allows promising scientists to carry out research in a laboratory for the full 4 years. There is also the possibility to carry out part of the research at the Ghent University, Belgium for one month every year. PhD degree diploma will be from the Gent University, Belgium.
– The closing date for applications is 30st November 2021
– Interviews will commence in December 2021
GUGC is the first campus of Ghent University outside Belgium. This brand new campus is located in Incheon, South Korea. We offer newly built facilities, a multidisciplinary and stimulating research environment, and active supervision of graduate studies. Korea and in particular Seoul offers a very high quality of life with an active cultural scene and many other leisure activities. The GUGC is an equal opportunities employer.
