Description: The University of Giessen and Marburg Lung
Center is one of the world’s leading pulmonary
Centers. Its recognised for excellence both in the
basic scientific research and in the clinical
management of patients with lung diseases. The
main focus of the research project will be aimed at
molecular pathomechanism driving
the
development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic,
progressive lung disease with unknown ethiology.
It affects approximately 5 million persons
worldwide. The median survival is 2 to 5 years
following the diagnosis. As no effective therapy for
IPF exists, new molecular therapeutic targets need to
be identified. The current project will investigate the
role of proteases and their receptors in the
pathobiology of IPF.
