Position Description


The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is one of the largest universities in Germany with around 44,000 students and with about 5,700 employees. The Institute for Theoretical Physics of Goethe University Frankfurt invites applications for the following positon of a

PhD student (m/f/d) (E 13 TV-G-U, 50% part-time)

available starting from 01.04.2024. The duration of the contract will be initially for three years. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

Prerequisite for the application is a Master’s degree in Physics. The successful candidate should have a strong research background in one or several of the following areas: quantum manybody systems, in particular quantum phases of ultracold atoms, numerical simulation techniques for strongly interacting quantum many-body systems, strongly correlated electron systems. It is expected that the candidate shows special commitment to teaching and has the ability to work independently in scientific research.

Knowledge of the German language is not essential but advantageous, and the successful candidate is expected to learn German or to improve his*her German language skills.
