One position for a Ph.D. Student in Experimental Biomechanics for 3 years; expected as soon as possible at the Institute of Biomechanics in Graz, Austria.
Acceptance conditions: M.Sc. (Dipl.-Ing.) in (Bio)mechanical Engineering, (Bio)physics, (Bio)imaging or related fields and experience with desire to pursue a Ph.D. degree.
Requested qualifications: Knowledge in the areas of solid mechanics and preferably also in experimental biomechanics and bioimaging; interest in biomechanics, design and experimental laboratory work; desire to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment, and in cooperation with other Universities; fluent English is required, knowledge in German is advantageous.
The Ph.D. Student will be integrated into an international collaborative team to perform multiscale mechanical testing of healthy and atherosclerotic human aortas and related analysis. The project aims are to combine different imaging and mechanical characterization techniques at the macro-, micro- and nanoscale levels to develop and validate next generation multiscale constitutive models for the human aorta. The novelties of this project are the application and development of experimental methods on different hierarchical scales, and the intelligent combination, integration and validation of experimental techniques to give an explanation for the role of important constituents in arterial mechanics, physiology, and pathology.
