Position Description

PhD Positions – Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Brisbane, Australia

We are currently recruiting highly motivated applicants to undertake their PhD within our research team to work in the field of photochemistry for the design of advanced macromolecular precision materials applied in fields ranging from laser based lithography, biomimetic macromolecule design to advanced functional interface systems.

Starting Date: March-April, 2017
Duration: 36 months

The introduction of modern modular ligation reactions has led to the design of efficient synthetic pathways towards complex, dynamic and adaptive macromolecular structures and materials. With the aim of providing the next generation of precision modular chemistry with regard to selectivity, (bio)orthogonality, control and efficiency, our team develops light-induced ligation protocols – highly selective with regard to wavelength, intensity and chemistry – for designing advanced adaptive functional macromolecular precision materials. In combination with advanced polymerization techniques, the precision light-induced chemistry finds applications in e.g. functional photoresists for direct laser writing, synthetic protein mimics, precision surface encoding, sequence defined macromolecules and adaptive and dynamically recordable two- and three-dimensional interfaces.

The successful applicants will be based in the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering (https://www.qut.edu.au/science-engineering/our-schools/school-of-chemistry-physics-and-mechanical-engineering) at Queensland University of Technology, and join our research team (http://macroarc.org/).

The applicant must be eligible to enroll in a PhD at Queensland University of Technology (https://www.qut.edu.au/study/courses/doctor-of-philosophy/doctor-of-philosophy-science-engineering). Scholarships available are indexed annually (starting at AU$27,171 per annum). The scholarship is tax exempt for full-time students, and is to support living costs for up to 3 years for doctoral students. International students will receive an accompanying QUT Higher Degree Research Tuition Fee Sponsorship. An excellent level of English is essential.
