Description: We are currently looking for a motivated PhD candidate with strong interest in interdisciplinary research in the area of smart material at the interphase of material science and engineering. This project is funded by Leibniz research cluster (LRC) with an objective to develop basic technologies for next generation of biotechnological processes.
As one of involved research groups, our team in INM-Leibniz institute for new materials aims to develop switchable meso-structural surface as micro-reactor platform that permits simultaneous and unprecedented levels of control over reaction pathways. In this project, stimuli-responsive material systems that can be fabricated on surface with well-developed technologies like lithography and printing place an important role. We firstly design and synthesize organic/hybrid building blocks. These building blocks are expected to be not only responsive to external stimuli but also curable under controllable condition in which lithographical/printing technologies can be used. We will fabricate these building blocks into micro-actuators and also integrate them on meso-structured surface as responsive engine to control surface behavior. Material synthesis and fabrication will be required for this project.
The PhD supervisor will be Dr. Jiaxi Cui, who is leading research group of switchable microfluidic at the INM-Leibniz Institute for New Materials since September 2015.
If you are interested please send a detailed CV precisely mentioning practical and theoretical skills, transcripts, a motivation letter to jiaxi.cui@leibniz-inm.de.
Requirements Applicants should have a masters in chemistry, engineering, material science or related fields.
