Position Description

Project title : Thermal cracking : mechanisms and mitigation solutions

The project aims at improving the knowledge of the effect of thermal cracking on the mechanical and frost heave response of flexible pavements. The project also aims at developing efficient and durable approach to mitigate this performance problem. The specific objectives are :

– To document the mechanical behaviour of a cracked pavements;
– To quantify the effect of numerous factors that contribute to pavement weakening and poor behaviour near surface cracks;
– To assess the applicability of various mitigation solutions and to determine the associated benefices of the techniques;
