Position Description

Identification of a new molecular target in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a serious and incurable disease, with increasing frequency, characterized by a progressive and irreversible loss of respiratory abilities with a median survival of 3 to 5 years after diagnosis. The only two anti-fibrotic molecules available on the market in IPF limit the progression of the disease but have a very modest impact on survival.
We developed an interleukin-13 pulmonary fibrosis induction model on air/liquid interface (ALI) cultures of mouse lungs and identified a new and specific therapeutic target in IPF. The thesis project involves characterizing induced fibrosis using molecular approaches and imaging techniques and validating the molecular target using a shRNA approach.
The expected results of validating the molecular target with this model are to define original therapeutic strategies to inhibit/block fibrosis in IPF.
