Position Description

The Institute for Environmental Sciences, University Koblenz-Landau, Campus Landau is inviting applications for a Ph. D. Student Position “Nanoparticle-organic matter interactions” (three years 0,5 EGr. 13 TV-L) for research in the Group for Environmental and Soil Chemistry in the frame of the DFG project „INTERNANO; subproject MASK“. The fixed-term Position is subject to the German law on fixed-term contracts in science (WissZeitVG). The position is linked with teaching tasks (2 SWS).
The DFG project INTERNANO assesses mechanisms underlying the fate and toxicity of engineered nanoparticles in aquatic media. The successful candidate will investigate the interactions between nanoparticles and natural organic matter in a systematic way. The interdisciplinary research involves collaboration with environmental scientists, biologists, and physicists for join experiments. The interactions between particles and molecular components will be investigated using nanoanalytical methods such as DLS, hydrodynamic chromatography, single particle-ICP-MS, electron microscopy, and AFM). Investigations on bench and field samples are planned. Further information on the project and links to relevant publications can be found at www.internano.uni-landau.de or by contacting Dr. Allan Philippe (philippe@uni-landau.de).
The position requires a Master’s (M.Sc.) degree or an equivalent degree with focus on colloid sciences, chemistry, environmental chemistry or physical chemistry. Good understanding of nano-analytics and colloid chemistry is another pre-requisite. In addition, sufficient physical capacities are also required for the field work. Experiences in the mentioned analytical techniques are an advantage.
Equal opportunities are a cornerstone of our staff policy at University Koblenz-Landau. Applications from women are therefore particularly welcome. We also welcome applications from disabled persons who will be preferred in case of equal qualification.

How to Apply
