Introducing ETS and Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal:
Dr. Bora Ung is an assistant professor in the electrical engineering department at the Ecole de Technologie Superieure (ETS), a dynamic and rapidly growing engineering school located in the vibrant and cosmopolitan downtown of Montreal, Canada (http://en.etsmtl.ca). ETS ranks among the 4 largest engineering schools or faculties in Canada. In keeping with the mission of this university, high-quality graduate research is focused in applied science and the transfer of technological innovations to companies. Dr Maksim Skorobogatiy is full professor and holder of a Canada Research Chair at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal (Poly). Poly is one of the largest engineering university in Québec for the size of its graduate student body and the scope of its research activities (www.polymtl.ca/en).
PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
The THz spectrum is the next frontier for high-bandwidth wireless communications. As such there is a strong interest from both academic and industrial sectors to develop efficient THz communication systems and related components. The proposed project aims at demonstrating such high-bandwidth wireless links with the help of space-division multiplexing. Prof. Ung is inviting applications for a PhD studentship in high-capacity terahertz (THz) communications to be pursued at the research labs in ETS and in co-direction with Prof Skorobogatiy at Poly. The chosen candidate will have the unique opportunity to learn and perform research in state-of-the-art facilities as well as benefit from the support of both research groups located at ETS and Poly (both located in downtown Montreal). The project involves theoretical work, numerical modeling, design and implementation of THz sources and characterization setups. This research is projected to generate publications in high-impact journals. The student will have the chance to work in collaboration with multiple academic and industrial partners, and to present research results at international conferences and meetings.
