Project description
The doctoral student will work within Business Administration at Umeå School of Business, Economics, and Statistics (USBE) but also belong to the Industrial Doctoral School for Research and Innovation of Umeå University through cooperation with the company MacGregor Sweden AB, www.macgregor.com. MacGregor is a global company that shapes the offshore and marine industries by offering world-leading engineering solutions and services for handling marine cargoes, vessel operations, offshore loads, crude/LNG transfer and offshore mooring that are designed to perform with the sea. The student will be part of a research project in innovation management which explores how transformative innovation happens in the global maritime transport industry.
MacGregor’s areas of operation are central to this Ph.D. project. Thus cooperation with the company will be a vital part of the student’s work. The student will have the opportunity to, in dialogue with the supervisors, shape both methodological and theoretical aspects of the work.
As a Ph.D. student, you should take courses and do an independent research project. You are expected to contribute to the research environment through active participation in seminars, conferences and other research activities that support your research as well as the research environment. Doctoral education equals four years of full-time studies (240 ECTs). From the second year, the student may teach and carry out other school tasks which correspond to 20% of the working hours.
