School: Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences
Department: Physics/Chemistry
Seminar/Institute: Cluster of Excellence: “The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging” (CUI)

The Universität Hamburg invites applications for a

Post-doc Research Associate

for the following project: “Ultrafast Structure Determination in Liquids” (areas C1,C2)) within the federal excellence cluster “Center for Ultrafast Imaging” (CUI) and will be conducted in collaboration with other CUI-members.

The position is full-time (39 hours per week) and is remunerated at the 13 TV-L salary level.

A time limited contract will be offered with a maximum duration of 3 years. The short-term nature of this contract is based upon § 2 of the Academic Short-term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

The University aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching and explicitly encourages women to apply. Equally qualified female applicants will receive preference in accordance with Hamburg’s Higher Education Act (HmbHG).

Tasks:

Duties include academic services in the above project.

Area(s) of responsibility:

Within this research project the applicant investigates the ultrafast structural dynamics of complex fluids and nucleation and growth of nanoparticles. This involves the fabrication of advanced microfluidic systems and performing time-resolved X-ray scattering experiments at free electron lasers (XFEL) and synchrotron radiation beamlines. The combination of modern lithography-based microfluidics, X-ray scattering and -correlation methods (XPCS, XCCA) allows great sample control under predictable and highly reproducible conditions. These are key elements for studying the formation of transient clusters in complex fluids or the very early stages during nanoparticle syntheses.

Requirements:

A university degree plus a doctoral degree in (X-ray) physics, (physical) chemistry, nanoscience, (chemical) engineering or a relevant subject. Experience in X-ray scattering, microfluidics and/or nanoparticle synthesis would be highly beneficial.
