Position Description

Freie Universität Berlin has been one of the German universities of excellence since 2007, and offers
an interdisciplinary, international, and highly collaborative research environment. The Molecular Dynamics Group specialises in the simulation and and analysis of complex molecular dynamics, as well as method development for these simulations.

Job description:
We are seeking a research assistant (65% 13 TV-L FU) within the newly established collaborative research center 1449 “Dynamic Hydrogels at Biointerfaces”, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Biomimetic hydrogels are highly dynamic structures with remarkable rheological properties. The goal of the project is to construct multiscale computational models of biomimetic hydrogels to elucidate how the atomistic structure of the hydrogels determines their viscosity and transport properties. The project is conducted in close collaboration with experts from synthetic chemistry, biophysics, and structural analysis. Overall we want to understand how biological hydrogels achieve their protective properties and to develop materials with similar properties.

The position offers the possibility to obtain a doctoral degree.

Requirements:
The candidate needs to hold (or complete soon) an excellent Master degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physics or a related scientific discipline.

Desirable:
The following skills are considered a plus
– experience with molecular simulations or multiscale modeling
– experience with modelling fluids
– a solid background in Statistical Physics or Computational Chemistry – programming skills

The group language is English. German skills are not required, but the candidate should have a good
command of written and spoken English.
