Position Description

PhD Student Position in Synaptic Physiology of the Retina

Chair of Animal Physiology / Neurobiology, Department of Biology, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
Our research group is interested in the molecular, structural and functional organization of the photoreceptor synapse, the first synapse in the visual system. Impaired photoreceptor synaptic function will inevitably lead to impaired vision or even blindness. In the project, we will study the structural and functional development of photoreceptor synapses in mouse retina. We will employ a broad spectrum of techniques including electrophysiology (ERG-, patch clamp recordings) and high-resolution imaging (confocal laser scanning-, STED- and electron microscopy).
We offer a DFG-funded PhD student position for three years with a salary according to the German pay scale TV-L13 (65%) and excellent facilities to conduct cutting-edge research in an international and team-spirited atmosphere. The ideal candidate should have experiences with patch clamp recordings and physiological data analysis and a keen interest in investigating structure-function-relationships of photoreceptor synapses. Written and spoken proficiency in English is mandatory.

The application should include
• Curriculum vitae
• Cover letter and statement of motivation
• Contact information of a previous academic supervisor
and should be send in a single PDF document to
