Position Description

IA-BIOBREAST: Pixel-level analysis of texture features and fusion of multimodal information.

Ph.D. on Computer-Aided Diagnosis in Medical Imaging, Tarragona, Spain

The Intelligent Robotics and Computer Vision Group (http://deim.urv.cat/~rivi) at Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain (http://www.urv.cat)
is looking for candidates with experience in image processing and computer vision for a 3-year Ph.D. position.

The candidate will join a research project on Computer-Aided Diagnosis in Medical Imaging (http://deim.urv.cat/~rivi/cicyt13_2.html).

Prospective candidates may contact Dr. Domenec Puig (domenec.puig@urv.cat)

3 years and restricted to those interested in obtaining a doctoral degree.
Tentative starting date: January 2015.

Research:

The IA-BioBreast project aims at researching image analysis methods that focus on the development of two specific biomarkers: breast density and temporal evolution of existing lesions. In order to achieve this goal, new microtexture-specific techniques will be developed using algorithms for feature extraction, selection and classification. On the other hand, image registration algorithms will be researched for two main applications: combining images of different modalities (breast X-ray mammography, MRI and UltraSound) and registering temporal studies within the same image modality. Finally, automatic lesion detection algorithms will also be developed by using image segmentation techniques. The adequacy of the project results to clinical practice will be analysed by using a CAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis) system able to process the results from all the techniques developed. By including all these aspects, the project focuses in using computer vision techniques and developing novel algorithms for segmentation, feature extraction and selection, classification and registration.

University:

The research team at the URV (Rovira i Virgili University) is member of the Intelligent Robotics and Computer Vision (IRCV) research group (http://deim.urv.cat/~rivi). The IRCV group is concerned with the development of innovative solutions in several areas of Robotics and Computer Vision through the application of advanced computing techniques.
