Position overview:

Associate Professor Xuan-Ce Wang from Department of Applied Geology, Curtin University is looking for a motivated PhD student to join his Geochemical Dynamics and Resources Research group. This is an immediate opening PhD position with full financial support (tuition and stipend). The potential research areas include: (1) Deep- Earth fluid cycling and evolution of Tibet plateau: magmatism constraints; (2) Isotope dating and fingerprinting of hydrocarbons and their source rocks for petroleum exploration; and (3) Mantle recycling: from the mantle transition zone to large-scale continental crustal magmatism.

A/Prof. Wang is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and an international inorganic and isotope geochemist. His research focus on the behaviour of specific elements and isotope systems in high-temperature magmatic system and low-temperature basin thermal fluid system. He has 63 publications in refereed, international journals, which have got 2300 ISI citations with h-index of 21 in web of science, and 3376 with h-index of 25 in Google Scholar (Dec. 2016). His students always have a plenty of opportunities to collaborate with the group’s industry partners (e.g., GSWA, PetroChina, etc.) and government labs (John de Laeter Centre, Geoscience Research Centre (TIGeR), Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.). He will strive to help the group’s students achieve their career goals such as academic faculty members, research scientists at government/industry research labs, and industrial occupations. Qualifications:
• Preferred candidates should be self-motivated, responsible, and hardworking;
• Background in geology, geochemistry or other relevant areas (Bachelors or Masters, Master’s degree by Research preferred);
• A solid background in any one of the following will be a crucial plus: mineralogy & petrology; igneous geology; inorganic/organic /isotopic geochemistry; petroleum geology;
• Previous research experience is a strong plus;
• Good English communication and writing skills is essential. If the candidate is not a passport holder from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, he/she should satisfy Curtin University’s Minimum English Entry Requirements (e.g., IELTS (Academic): R/L/S/W, 6.0 & Overall 6.5; TOEFL: R/L/S/W, 13/13/18/21 & Overall 79).
