Position Description


M.Sc. and Ph.D. positions in marine biogeochemistry at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

One 2-year M.Sc. position and one 4-year Ph.D. positions are opened at the laboratory of Aquatic Biogeochemistry headed by Dr. Alexey Kamyshny at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel. The students will participate in Israel Science Foundation funded project “Cryptic sulfur cycling in the sediments of the Gulf of Aqaba”. The goal of this project is to study controls of cryptic sulfur cycle and mineralization of organic matter in reactive iron-rich sediments of the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea (Blonder et al., 2017, Frontiers in Microbiology, volume 8, article 1131).
Both positions include research project as well as teaching and/or course administration. The total allowance (stipend and salary) is 72,000 NIS (~20,000$) per year for Ph.D. student and 42,000 NIS (~12,000$) per year for M.Sc. student.
Funding will be available starting October 2019.
Requirements:
M.Sc. position – B.Sc. in earth sciences, chemistry or life sciences, fluency in written and spoken English.
Ph.D. position – M.Sc. in earth sciences, chemistry or life sciences, a strong background in experimental design and quantitative thinking, fluency in written and spoken English. Experience with analytical chemistry, especially chromatography and mass spectrometry, is meriting.
